2004.04.10, Hoover Dam

On our last day in Vegas, we drove to the Hoover Dam. It's only about 40 or so minutes away. The scenery on the drive out there is pretty drab, desert sands, rocks, and sun.

For some reason, I didn't expect the dam to be much of a tourist spot. I was wrong. There was a long single-file line of cars waiting to get past the security check. After that we parked and walked to the dam.

The thing is huge -- these pictures don't do it justice. And there were a bunch of weird monuments to celebrate it, with signs of the zodiac and other pseudo-mythological symbols. I don't think that our government would be allowed to build such monuments anymore -- they reek of paganism.
